Hi, my name is Cheryl Grant and I own a small property 43km North of Adelaide just outside the Metropolitan area in a town called Two Wells. I live here with my 3 horses (oops ... now 5 horses), 2 cats and my lovable "Reject" curly coated retriever, Rory (the Resident Property Manager). I have been breeding western horses for 25 years, purchasing my first Appaloosa mare in 1980. I bred and showed appaloosa until 2000 when I lost my Maga Dream mare through foaling. This foal was raised by my Quarter Horse mare "A Cuttabove" after her filly was weaned Sophie willingly took on this orphaned filly.
I bought my first Quarter Horse in 1994, a yearling filly and have bred and shown Quarter Horses ever since. I only have 1 or 2 foals a year and breed for temperament, conformation, trainability and versatility. All my horses have to be easy to handle as I manage and breed these horses and maintain my property single handed.
I breed mainly for halter as I do not ride anymore but all my horse must have the movement and ability to be able to perform under saddle.

In January 2007 I was asked to look for a miniature horse for my neice. After a few weeks enquiring about minis and speaking to mini breeders we finally found a suitable gelding for my neice. It was at this point that I became interested in the miniature horse. A few months later I enquired about a mare and a filly that were for sale in our local area. My sister-in-law was also interested in purchasing a filly to go with my neices gelding. So we went to look at these minis. After much negotiation we purchased a package of 3 x 6month old fillies and a broodmare. My sister-in-law bought the 3 fillies and I purchase the broodmare who was possibly in foal to a miniature pony stallion.
So the next day, we went and picked up the 4 minis. I delivered the 3 fillies to my sister-in-laws place and Tori came home with me. This was the start of my adiction to miniature horses.
In September I had Tori pregnancy tested and unfortunately she was not in foal. So the search started for a stallion to put over Tori. I enquired at a few studs but they did not breed to outside mares, then I found a very nice boy just around the corner from me which I was considering using. I was also keeping an eye on the internet and Horse Deals to see what was around for sale. Then I saw a very nice 3 year old for sale in Victoria. So I enquired about him and was very attracted to him. So I purchased Black. Black came to SA a week later and I was extremely pleased with him.
So now I have a Mare and a Stallion and this is how I got into Miniature Horses.
